Whistler’s Pride & Ski Week Are Baaaack!

Every January, Canada’s largest and most popular ski week is held at Whistler, British Columbia.

It’s a tradition that began back in 1992 and brings old friends and new ones together in this popular mountain municipality.

The event formally began Sunday night with the Welcome Party, but the best part for most participants is the group skiing. Each morning you get to meet up at the top of either Whistler or Blackcomb and you split up into groups based on your ski or snowboard level.

“The Princess Posse”, guided by the amazing Bernard (note the festive hat)

This is where long term friendships get born. It’s super fun because you get to play and connect with like-minded people. You ski together and ride the lifts together, which gives you the opportunity to get to know each other.

Sure there’s apres ski and other parties (such as Drag Bingo last night). But to us, the best part of this event is the ability to connect with some terrific people from around the globe.

Drag Bingo at Whistler

As a PrideNomad, it can be a bit challenging to balance skiing, work and parties, but it’s certainly worth trying!

We’ll have more updates next week (as we recover from 9 days of skiing!)

Being queer and living that digital nomad life?

It’s not exactly what Tim Ferriss wrote about.

Because while everyone else follows some straight dude's blueprint from 2007...

You need to know which cities actually have a scene.

Where to get prescriptions drama-free.

And yes, even which dating apps work where.

That's why we’re writing "The Pride Nomad's Guide."

Everything those OTHER nomad books don't cover...

Written by someone who knows good wifi and great drag shows are EQUALLY important.

Did Forbes Miss The Memo? Their Top 2025 Digital Nomad Destination Has a Dark Secret

Forbes decided to kick off 2025 by naming St. Lucia as their top digital nomad destination.

And honestly... I have some thoughts about that.

Not because the island isn't beautiful. It is.

Not because the Digital Nomad Visa program isn't solid. It's fine.

But because Forbes completely ignored something pretty important:

St. Lucia still criminalizes same-sex relationships.

Yeah. You read that right.

In 2025, they're still holding onto colonial-era laws that could land someone in prison for up to 10 years for "gross indecency."

St. Lucia might be gorgeous, but looks can be deceiving.

Now look...

I know what some people are gonna say:

"But they never enforce those laws against tourists!"

Cool story. But is that really the standard we're accepting?

"They probably won't arrest you for being gay" isn't exactly a selling point for a top destination.

Here's the reality:

• No visible LGBTQ+ spaces
• Public affection between same-sex couples? Still taboo
• Zero protections against discrimination
• Standard advice is basically "stay in the closet"

Sure, they've made some baby steps...

Like adding sexual orientation protections to their labor laws.

And extending domestic violence protections to LGBTQ+ folks.

But when the default advice is still "just be discreet"...

Maybe... just maybe... it shouldn't be crowned as THE top destination for digital nomads.

Especially when places like Curaçao and St. Barths exist.

(You know, spots where you can actually be yourself without looking over your shoulder.)

Here's the thing:

As PrideNomads, we have the freedom to work from anywhere.

That's literally the whole point.

So why would we champion destinations that force part of our community to hide who they are?

I'm not saying boycott St. Lucia.

The island's got its merits.

But maybe Forbes should consider the WHOLE picture next time.

Because a "top destination" should be top-tier for EVERYONE.

Not just the folks who fit into their narrow box of what's "acceptable."

Quiz Answer

Frankfurt, Germany.

This city is not only a major financial hub but also has a liberal and accepting attitude towards LGBTQ+ individuals, and Kaiser Friedrich Street is colloquially known as the “gay street” due to its vibrant LGBTQ+ scene.
