🌈 Pride, Power, and Palm Trees: Florida Brought the Heat (and a Little Rain)

Two weekends ago, Pride came to West Palm Beach—technically Lake Worth Beach—and let’s just say: Mother Nature tried it.

With skies cracking and crowds evacuated, you might’ve thought the show was over.

Nope. Not even close.

Lake Worth Beach…BEFORE the rain…PrideNomad Mom loves this photo!

The storm passed, the music returned, and so did the glitter. Because our community doesn’t back down—we rise, we dance, and we keep going. Rain-soaked but radiant.

And just last weekend, Miami Beach served up sunshine, rainbow police cruisers (yes, really), and powerful presence—from the mayors of both Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County. It wasn’t just a party—it was a statement.

A reminder.

That we’re here.

We’re queer.

And some of us are hopping flights next week to do it all over again somewhere else.

💥 Why this matters:

In a world that still tries to erase us, every Pride event—whether it’s drenched in rain or draped in sun—is an act of joyful defiance. Whether you’re dancing in Miami, marching in Madrid, or sipping cocktails in Cape Town, your presence matters.

Curious where to go next?

From NYC to Berlin to Bangkok, Pride is popping off all over the globe. And while we’re not a travel agency (yet 😏), we’ll keep spotlighting cities, stories, and safe spaces that celebrate all of who we are

So wherever you’re headed next, bring your light.

Because Pride isn’t just a place.

It’s a passport.

And baby—we’re collecting stamps. ✈️🌍

So start packing your bags and practicing your strut.

DESTINATIONS:

Barbados, Jamaica & Being LGBTQ+ on the Islands—What You Need to Know

Let’s be real: Not every country that calls to your soul makes the PrideNomad Index.

But that doesn’t mean you’re not going. And if you are—we want you going fully informed, fully prepped, and fully YOU.

Here’s your brief, no-fluff guide to being LGBTQ+ and remote in Jamaica and Barbados:

🇯🇲 Jamaica: Community is Rising—But So Are the Risks

✈️ Visa & Nomad Logistics

  • Visa-free stays: Up to 6 months for U.S., UK, Canada, and many others.

  • No digital nomad visa—so don’t expect long-term perks or formal infrastructure.

  • Wi-Fi: Decent in Kingston and Montego Bay. Stick to trusted cafes or co-working spots like Kingston Creative Hub.

  • Lodging: Use Misterb&b or TravelGay-recommended properties to find welcoming hosts.

🏳️‍🌈 LGBTQ+ Real Talk

  • Same-sex intimacy between men is still criminalized. Period. You are legal, but not protected.

  • Public displays of affection? Avoid them.

  • Gay bars/clubs? Underground only. Events like Community Fest happen in secure venues—never assume visibility equals safety.

  • Local allies: Follow or reach out to J-FLAG, Jamaica’s lead LGBTQ+ advocacy org. They offer updates, support, and community intel.

🔥 Events Worth Knowing

  • Community Fest Jamaica (June) is bold and beautiful. Come with caution and a connected network. Events like Bare As You Dare and ALT Friday are historic—but not for the unprepared. The Pride parade is set for June 1st.

🧭 Pro Tips

  • Book a trusted driver or airport pickup in advance.

  • Register with your country’s embassy (Smart Traveler for U.S.).

  • Travel with a buddy, especially to nighttime events.

🇧🇧 Barbados: Beautiful Progress, Quiet Pride

✈️ Visa & Nomad Logistics

  • Welcome Stamp Visa: Work remotely for up to 12 months—straightforward application, approved in 7 days.

  • Wi-Fi: Some of the best in the Caribbean—up to 600 Mbps in urban areas.

  • Co-working: Check out Regus Bridgetown or chill-friendly cafes like The Green Monkey Café.

  • Lodging: Safe bets in St. Lawrence Gap and Holetown. TravelGay and Pink Coconuts have listings.

🏳️‍🌈 LGBTQ+ Landscape

  • Decriminalized since 2022—but laws protecting queer rights are still evolving.

  • Nightlife is emerging. G Lounge is your best bet for a low-key queer evening.

  • Equals Barbados and B-GLAD are your go-to community hubs—hosting hikes, poetry nights, balls, and Pride events (typically in August/September).

🔥 Vibe Check

  • Safe for LGBTQ+ travelers, but PDA might still raise eyebrows in rural areas.

  • Cultural conservatism lingers, but the island is opening up—especially in hospitality and expat circles.

🧭 Pro Tips

  • Stay in well-reviewed, centrally located areas.

  • Use LGBTQ+-friendly booking platforms when possible.

  • Ask your host or hotel about events or local connections—they’ll often know more than Google does.

💡 Final Word

These islands didn’t make the PrideNomad Index because we have standards. Legal protections matter. Public visibility matters. But your safety and agency matter even more.

If you go—go smart. Go supported. Go connected.

And wherever you travel, remember:

Being out is brave. Being prepared is power.

Let’s keep building a world where we don’t have to choose between the two.

🌈 Been to either island as a queer nomad? Got tips to share?

Hit reply—we’d love to include your insights in a future edition.

South Africa.

Known for its progressive stance on LGBTQ+ rights, South Africa (35 on the PrideNomad Index) offers specialized LGBTQ+ safaris, providing a unique and inclusive tourist experience.
