DESTINATIONS:

The Truth About Being Queer in Nepal (From Someone Who Actually Knows)

A late-night FaceTime with my friend Bob (Naba to his family back home) just shifted my whole perspective on Nepal.

He’s originally from Kathmandu, lives in Sydney now, but stays deeply connected to what’s happening back home.

And what he shared made me realize…

👉 We’ve all been sleeping on Nepal.

Not because it’s perfect. (It’s not.)

But because something fascinating is happening there.

☕ While everyone’s chasing overpriced lattes in Lisbon… Nepal just quietly registered its first same-sex marriages. Like, ever. 📅 This happened in November 2023.

And here’s what blew my mind:

🧠 A recent Gallup poll showed 87% of Nepalis think their country is “a good place for gay people to live.” (That’s higher than some places we call “progressive.”)

Naba broke it down for me:

“Nepal’s not trying to be another Bali or Bangkok,” he explained. “We’re doing our own thing. Moving at our own pace.”

And he’s right.

Because while Nepal might not tick all the boxes yet…

💥 They’re making moves that matter:

✅ Same-sex relationships? Legal since 2007

✅ Third gender recognition? On passports and IDs

✅ Marriage registration? Started late 2023

✅ Public acceptance? Some of the highest in Asia

But Naba kept it real about the gaps too:

⚠️ Marriage rights are still “temporary”
⚠️ Legal protections aren’t complete
⚠️ Some LGBTQ+ support centers have shut down due to funding cuts

“It’s a work in progress,” he admits. “But the progress is real.”

💻 Now let’s talk Digital Nomad Life

Nepal offers something different. Something deeper.

💸 Living costs under $900/month in Kathmandu
🧘‍♀️ Co-working spaces without the tech bro energy
📶 WiFi (30–80 Mbps) in major cities
🌄 A vibe that’s more soul search than scale fast

🙃 But let’s keep it honest:

⚡ Power outages? Still happen
🌐 Rural internet? Spotty at best
💳 Banking? Needs an upgrade
🏔️ And yep… landslides can shut roads. (Nature keeps it real in Nepal.)

🧭 So Here’s the Truth:

If you need:

  • 24/7 fiber internet

  • Full legal certainty

  • Or a Starbucks on every corner…

Nepal’s not there yet.

But if you’re craving:

  • A place to create deeply

  • Connection beyond Instagram

  • Affordable living

  • And a culture that’s slowly—but surely—opening its arms…

Nepal deserves your attention.

Not because it’s perfect. But because it’s real.

And sometimes?

The most meaningful destinations aren’t the ones with the smoothest roads. They’re the ones still paving their way forward. With intention. With heart. And with a community that’s ready to welcome you… just as you are.

Wondering what daily life might really look like as a digital nomad in Puerto Vallarta?

Let’s paint you a little picture...

You wake up to the sound of waves or birds in the jungle hills.

After a smoothie from the local fruit stand, you head to a breezy café or co-working space with fibre internet and sea views.

Lunchtime? Tacos and cold coconut water from a street vendor who knows your name.

Evenings mean beach walks, art shows, salsa classes, or queer-friendly happy hours where locals and expats mix effortlessly.

It’s not a fantasy — it’s what many of my clients now call normal.

✈️ NOMAD HACK:

How to Never Lose Your Sh*t (Literally)

Before you zip up your suitcase, do this:

📸 Take a photo of everything inside.
Yes—open it up and snap a quick pic.

Then:

📸 Take a photo of your passport

📸 Your credit cards (front and back)

📸 Your vaccination card or key meds

📸 And any bag claim tags from the airport

Store it all in a secure cloud folder (I use one called “TRAVEL - EMERGENCY” in Google Drive).

Why?

Because if your bag goes missing, your wallet gets stolen, or you have to prove what was inside your luggage for insurance?

These pics become your receipts, lifeline, and sanity-saver.

(Ask me how I learned this after a friend lost his backpack in Bogotá—with every single pair of underwear he owned. 😭)

For extra credit—if you’re forced to check a bag, take a few photos of it at the airport—preferably next to something that has the date. This way if the Samsonite Gorilla turns your bag into a play toy, you’ve got proof of it’s condition before it was destroyed (One airline boggled a brand-new $500 bag of mine on it's first outing, but I had no way to prove it was their fault).

PRIDENOMAD ADVENTURE:

🏕️ From Unicorn Exit to Jungle Awakening: Why I’m Going to Costa Rica This July (And You Might Want to Join Me)

You ever meet someone and instantly know: they’ve been through the fire, and what came out is pure gold?

That’s how I felt when I first talked to Shelby Clark.

He’s the founder of Turo—you know, the Airbnb-for-cars unicorn that’s worth billions.

But that’s not the story I want to tell you.

Because Shelby got pushed out of that company.

And instead of clinging to status or chasing another VC-funded high…

He let it all go.

He ended up in Bali.

Then in the jungle.

Then in himself.

🌱 Here’s what Shelby told me:

“I was a queer kid in a straight world. So I overachieved to feel loved. I built Turo to prove I was worthy.

But when I was pushed out…I didn’t know who I was anymore.

Yoga brought me back into my body. Plant medicine brought me back into my soul.”

His voice softened.

“That’s when I stopped trying to build something impressive—and started building something true.”

That something became the Jungle Gayborhood—a queer sanctuary hidden in 300 acres of Costa Rican rainforest, surrounded by waterfalls, toucans, and radical possibility.

🌈 So why am I telling you this now?

Because I’m going.

And you’re invited.

This July, I’ll be at the Jungle Gayborhood for a transformational retreat with Shelby and his team.

I don’t say this lightly, but:

👉 If you’re at a turning point in your life…

👉 If you’ve achieved a lot but feel empty…

👉 If you’re ready to peel off the armor and finally exhale…

Then come with me, and join other PrideNomads.

We’ll be dancing under waterfalls.

Laying down old identities.

Breathing deep into who we really are.

And yes—for those called—there’s a plant medicine path too.

(With science-backed results, zero pressure, and 100% queer safety.)

🌍 The Details

🗓️ July 27-August 2,2025

🧭 Ready for Your Own Jungle Awakening?

Or just reply to this email with “COSTA RICA” and we’ll send you the details.

You don’t need to be perfect.

You just need to be ready to come home to yourself.

Let’s go.

P.S. Hey — quick personal note, just between us nomads…

I just released the pre-release edition of my book, No Closets. No Borders.

It’s not fully polished yet — but it’s real. And raw.
And maybe the most honest thing I’ve ever written.

I made it pay what you want (with a $9 minimum), not because I don’t think it’s worth more…
But because I wanted this to reach the people who need it most.

There’s a reason for that — and I’ll share the full story next week.

If you’ve ever felt like the world wasn’t quite made for people like us…

This book might just remind you you’re not alone.

With pride & wanderlust,

Ken
