Kenya Moves in The Right Direction…But is it Enough?

Hold onto your safari hats, because Kenya just rolled out a Digital Nomad Work Permit, and it’s making waves in the remote work community!

As of October 2024, digital nomads can live and work in Kenya while exploring its stunning landscapes, from the Great Rift Valley to the coastal charm of Mombasa.

Kenya’s pitch? They want remote professionals from all over the world to experience the magic of their culture and natural beauty—all while getting their work done with a backdrop of giraffes strolling by. It’s a heck of an experience that you’ll remember forever.

But here's where we need to pause for a reality check.

Kenya’s beautiful, no doubt—but for LGBTQ+ travelers, it comes with significant challenges. Kenya’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws remain firmly in place.

Same-sex relationships are still criminalized under the Penal Code, and while there have been flickers of progress, the legal landscape is far from welcoming. As much as Kenya is rolling out the red carpet for other digital nomads, we as PrideNomads must tread carefully.

Does this mean you should cross Kenya off your list? Not necessarily!

With the right precautions, Kenya’s digital nomad visa could still offer opportunities to explore one of the most dynamic countries in Africa.

Staying connected with LGBTQ+ networks (shout out to Facebook groups like Nomad Rainbow) and tapping into resources like the NGLHRC (The National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission) can help you navigate safely. Just keep in mind that discretion is key here, and understanding the local culture will always be your best strategy.

   You must be employed by a company or run a business outside Greece. Applicants must show proof of an income of at least €3,500 per month, adjusted if dependents are joining.

2. Application Process:
   Applications can be submitted at a Greek embassy or consulate in your country. Required documents include your passport, proof of employment, income verification (bank statements), health insurance, and accommodation details. Visit the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more details.

3. Duration:
   The initial visa is valid for 12 months, with the option to renew or apply for a residence permit.

4. Cost:
